Rachit Chakerwarti

Rutch (like Dutch) + it

Tutoring: Mathematics

I completed my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, Math & Economics at the University of Toronto.

In my academic career, I’ve done extremely well and I’ve also done extremely poorly. I have deep empathy with students that struggle and I’ve also learned what it takes to excel, while fostering curiosity along the way. That is what I bring to every session.

Regan MacNay

Tutoring: Essay Writing & Study Skills

I completed my Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Music at Western University, my Master of Arts in English Literature at York University, and my Bachelor of Education at Queen’s University.

I’ve been a classroom teacher for most of my adult life but have found that the moments spent with an individual student examining their work and discussing possible edits are the most beneficial. I have developed specific, proven techniques to help students formulate an argument thesis and research and write full essays. My guiding tenet is to meet you, the student, where you are and help you move your writing style forward; I do not try to change your voice because your voice is what makes your essay unique. Every session will be a relaxed conversation where I ask you questions about what you’ve written and together we figure out how you can express what you really mean in clear, direct language.

Gavin Burn

Tutoring: Mathematics

I am currently in my second year at the University of Waterloo, where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Engineering.

I am a former student of Rachit’s, and I have experienced firsthand the impact quality tutoring can have on a student’s performance. When Rachit first started tutoring me, I had a 33 in Grade 9 Math, and by Grade 12, I had a 100 in Advanced Functions. I aim to develop determination and critical thinking in students, which will help them succeed in any academic discipline.

Testimonials

“Rachit sees the whole child, and their unique situation, and works hard to find commonalities to bring out the best in his students. His teaching includes time management skills, discussing healthy life decisions, and uses a kid's interests to bring math to life. I am very grateful!”

— Annabel Cope, Parent

Rachit helped me develop very good learning habits and has allowed me to have more profound understandings of math concepts instead of relying on purely memorization. He is very flexible and is a great guy overall. I would recommend him to anyone who is either struggling or wants to get ahead in math.

—Tal Perry, Student

After searching for a few years for the right type of math support for our teenage son, we were so relieved to meet Rachit. His approach to teaching is a perfect combination of accountability, understanding and patience. We have seen our son's confidence soar over the past two years, which is a testament to Rachit's passion for his work and his investment of time and attention to his craft. We are very thankful for Rachit's support and positive influence through our son's high school years!

— Kristy Fletcher, Parent

Not only has my love for subjects grown a lot within the past 3 years, but my grades and understanding have skyrocketed since doing tutoring with Rachit. I’ve learned a lot but more than that, Rachit has helped me accomplish other things such as, finding volunteer positions that are fitting to what I like, enhancing my resume, and giving me the confidence to use what we learn in our sessions in school and life.

— Madeline Galbraith, Student

One-on-One Essay Writing

An intense, condensed 4-part essay package that takes you from assignment to finished product in a short time-frame.

Brainstorming

Brainstorming ideas and possible arguments takes time. Together, we’ll explore concepts and textual areas of interest to create a skeleton structure on which to build your essay.

Structuring

Essays are so much more than the 5-paragraph hamburger. We’ll take a deep dive into how to create a strong thesis statement, how to craft complex topic sentences, and how to construct the introductory and conclusion paragraphs.

Editing

Essays are not a one-and-done process; a good essay takes a lot of time and a lot of adjusting to fashion the best product. You will learn how to approach the editing process and how to take a step back from your paper in order to view it through a dispassionate lens.

Exam Taking Seminars

Mock math exams for Grades 9-12, held in the East and West end of Toronto.

Students get to practice with a mock exam in-person before the real thing.

Go home with full-solutions and a head start to studying.

Offered in January and June.

Study Skills & Learning Strategies

We teach students study skills and learning strategies like time management, planning and scheduling in order to manage their busy lives along with homework.

We help manage scheduling directly with students in order to foster their ability to learn to make and keep appointments.

Values

  • Seva

Seva is the Hindi word meaning “selfless service.”

It is to serve without any expectation in return. We live in a market-based society, and it is often difficult to balance Seva with survival. I try my best to keep this value at the heart of my decision-making in order to serve my community through teaching.

  • Independence

    Tutors should become useless.

The goal with each and every single student I teach is to inspire an approach to learning that gives them a sense of independence. Students evolve to learn how to use tools to solve their problems, and transform me into a resource instead of someone they are forever reliant on.

  • Beauty

    Math can be beautiful.

Adding colour, organization, and unique tools and diagrams I encourage my students to feel the elegant awe and beauty that math can produce.

Access to private tutoring is a privilege. I try my best to offer pro bono tutoring services to struggling students who for financial reasons cannot get the help they need.

A portion of all tutoring income is donated to the education charity, AIM For Seva. They are a 100% volunteer run organization whose aim is to tackle poverty in India through improving access to education. Every tutoring session directly fuels education access for those most in need.
